Our mission, is to inspire the next generation, to embrace activity, generosity and acceptance, by introducing them to this new experience. An experience, which can inspire passion and help young people, to leave their comfort zone and improve their future physical, as well as mental health and wellbeing, while building both internal and external relationships.
Workshops
We create a safe and fun environment, in which young minds can explore their own potential, gain confidence and form bonds which last a lifetime, by introducing them to the wonderful world of Circus techniques.
The circus arts are unique in so many ways and are therefor the perfect tool, to use to convey a variety of values, traits and skills. In recent years, a lot of research has been done and the results are truly astounding.
In many Canadian schools, circus art lessons have been introduced to the curriculum. This has been met with great enthusiasm by the students and has lead to exceptional results.
One of these results is that the obesity rate of under 18 year olds has been lowered significantly, not only due to the increased physical activity of the students, but also largely by the new found confidence and self acceptance, these students have attained. This resulted in them no longer feeling insecure or embarrassed, when partaking in sport or Art classes.
This confidence, as well as the acceptance and encouragement of individuality, which is at the centre of any Circus instruction, is not only helping those struggling with physical and health problems. It was also observed, that it lowered the bullying taking place at schools, which have adopted Circus lessons, into their curriculum.
But perhaps the most surprising outcome of this project was the improvement of academic skills, in the children participating in Circus art classes. This is mostly to be led back to the improvement of concentration and hand to eye coordination, gained by learning these skills.
However, it is also believed that the ability to physically exert themselves in a fun and safe environment, free from any form of judgment allows students to focus once back in class.
Structure
Our Workshops always start with games and challenges, which encourage team work and help to establish a relationship between the students and the instructors. Once we have created a safe working relationship with our audience, the workshop progresses with a physical warm up, in which the students get to create the exercises, using everyday items.
The warm up is followed by the technical part of the day. During this time, students learn the basics of various different circus disciplines. This way, they can get a taste of different skills and ultimately deciding which one they would like to explore further.
Every circus artist gravitates towards a genre, it isn’t something we do, but a part of who we are. An extension and expression of our innermost selves.
In the second half of the workshop, students choose which circus art they would like to spend more time learning additional skills in.
The final part of the day, consists of a presentation and a feedback session. During this time students have the chance to share what they enjoyed and the discoveries they made, focusing on encouragement and positive reenforcement.
